Coelogyne fimbriata can be found in Vietnam, Myanmar, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and China. It grows on trees as an epiphytic or on rocks as a lithophyte in broadleaf evergreen forests at an altitude of 640-2300 meters above sea level. It is a medium sized orchid.
Coelogyne fimbriata flowers in the autumn on the newest mature pseudobulb. The greenish flowers are fragrant and they live for long time and about 3 cm in diameter.
Coelogyne fimbriata loves light 25000-35000 lux, they are able to tolerat direct morning or afternoon sun. However during hot summer protect them from the strong midday sun. If the light is insufficient your plant may not bloom as the new pseudobulb grows underdeveloped. During the whole year your plant ideally should get 16 hours light, but at least 10 hours every day. We strongly recommend artificial light in the autumn winter period.
Summer average daily temperature 20 degrees above, night 12 degrees.
Winter average daily and night temperature not higher than 10 degrees.
Coleogyne fimbriata can be grown mounted on blocks or in pots. When growing them in pots always use good quality orchid mix.
Resting period should take place during the winter. The ideal temperature is around 10 degrees day and night without changes. Between waterings the plant should be dry for at least 15-20 days.
The refusal of the flowering can be caused by not ideal temperature too hot during the winter, missing out on resting period, insufficient lighting.
