The Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis is a very unusual looking orchid without flowers as well. The many inflorescence can apper any time of the year. The flowers are reddish coloured with fine yellow spots and yellow hairs they are pollineted by flies therefor the flowers' fragrance is that of rotting meat.

Bulbophyllum phalalenopsis is a large sized orchid native to New Guinea's lowland forests at an elevation of no more than 500 meters above sea level. The Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis was named after the phalaenopsis orchid because it's leaves are similar. The leaves can grow up to a meter in length.

Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis is a hot growing epiphytic orchid, needs a light level of 10000-15000lux (from direct light the leaves can be discoloured). Higher light that does not harm the leaves seem to result in more frequent flowering. As always they need high humidity, regular watering and strong air movement. You can keep them in baskets but always use good quality orchid mix (bark and sphagnum moss).

During summer fertilize them weekly but in the winter only every third week.
