What should I do with my orchid after shopping?

What should I do with my orchid after shopping? What should we do with it at home to stay beautiful so that it can be an ornament of the home? Although in many cases orchids are written as though they are difficult to hold and require much care, in reality this is not entirely the case. All sit back, you can easily keep blooming orchids at home in your home. First and foremost, all this (of course) does not work without orchids. Many easy-to-hold orchids can be known from shops, supermarkets, flower shops or nursery. What's available in this segment, however, is a narrower slice - here are some hybrids that basically dominate the world of ornamental plants only in colors and flower sizes and the number of flower stems increases the richness of the offerings. What are we talking about now? Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium, Paphiopedilum, Miltonia, etc. These are the so-called hybrid orchids that are extremely easy to keep. In their case, there are a few corner things to look out for when shopping and lots of flowers to enjoy at home forever. And once unpacked from cellophane, a few corner things are no more than:

  • Let's put it in a bright place - but don't let the sun shine on it

  • Give them occasional nutrients and water or dip them

  • Repotting it into fresh planting medium every year - unless it is blooming

Watering and fertilising orchids - they are easy to care for

First, where do we put it? To the brightest place - it will be the best. Be careful not to rise directly in the sun or to heat the radiator too close during the heating season. And beyond that, wherever you can do it, the point is to give it enough light. From here, it is a matter of watering and nourishing everything - or occasionally transplanting. How to water our orchid? It is worth watering the orchids by immersing them in water for a few minutes (maximum) so that the water passes through the entire pot. We can shower like a shower, but it is important that the water not only flows through it here or there, but that it really flows through the whole medium. Afterwards, it should not be kept immersed in water - therefore we always pour excess water from the plant - the orchid planting medium should be more moist than too wet. Of course, the frequency of irrigation may vary depending on the season and the condition of the apartment, but as a general rule, we irrigate them once or twice a week in the winter, rather than every other day during the summer (even in the big heat). It is advisable to do the irrigation in the morning and morning hours (to prevent the rot of the green parts or to prevent fungal diseases). The golden mean works here too and it is worth thinking about watering loosely - never cramping - for us and the plant.

To give the plant lasting and large flowers, give it the nutrient. It can be a nutrient solution and it can be a natural fertilizer. In all cases, follow the product recommendation as it simply works. It is important to note that at least three weeks after transplanting orchids should be left to feed - to help stabilize the roots. Of course, using nutrients will not only help the orchid bloom. If used in normal amounts, we will have a stronger and more resistant plant that can be a decorative part of our home with its green parts - because there are flowering periods and it doesn't matter if the plant looks good (say in a nice plant pot). To care for orchids, we would recommend you two nutrients this time - which we have been using for a long time and have proven to be simple. One is the Hochwertiges nutrient solution and the other is the Orchid Master. The former is a nutrient solution that can be used to spray the green parts of the plant - it can be utilized by the plant anyway, but it is basically used when added to irrigation water. The latter can be applied directly to the surface of the planting medium - this is how it works best.

Transplanting orchids

Many are frightened at the thought of transplanting the orchid. But ... It's not complicated and it's in not too much time. Get it out of the plastic pot, shake it gently but firmly with the old "earth" and if there is a dead root, cut it out and go either to the same plastic pot it was in or if it doesn't fit in, you can go one bigger. There are two things worth thinking about. One is that if there are roots grown above the plastic pot, we try to carefully introduce them into the new medium among the other roots. Another is to always transplant it after flowering to avoid flower buds or flowers falling. After transplanting, we can cut out the flowered stems - giving us more, longer and more lasting flowers than the next one. Finally, let's put it in a nice plant pot, because it is good for us, just add value to the interior design of the plant! All in all, it can be so easy to hold orchids and get a good floral atmosphere in our home so easily. It is up to us, how we enhance the mood around them, whether it is up to us to surround them with additional orchids or tillandsias. Be that as it may, when we water and fertilizing them, we will no longer keep them in vain and from time to time we will be able to add color to their beautiful flowers and make the time spent at home more pleasant.
